The currently injured German captain offsets doubts that he couldn’t find back to top condition before summer and holds out the prospect of a timely comeback.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is convinced that his attendance to the European Championship will not be in jeopardy.

"I am on the right path. A torn ligament needs time but it is healing well." The German captain presents himself in a hopeful manner to Bild and doubts "0.00" percent that he will be ready for France in summer.

The former Munich player doesn’t agree with the sceptics’ speculations whether he will be in perfect shape until June to take a major role:

"A couple of things could be better, but the thesis is quite steep. During the national in Frankfurt against Poland experts said how the first half was probably one of the best halftimes a German national team has ever played. So those questions seem quite pretentious to me."

Accordingly Oliver Kahn (among others) had increased the pressure on Schweinsteiger.

"Bastian strives to be European Champion. But one thing’s for sure: if Bastian wants to take a decisive role he has to get going", said the former German national keeper to Sport Bild.

If not 100% in shape Schweinsteiger will not be nominated only due to past achievements.

"Oliver has not talked to me about that and I don’t interpret former colleagues", says Schweinsteiger. This decision is solely up to Joachim Löw: "The national coach will make the decision he thinks is right – in my case just as in any other. The players don’t nominate themselves."

Schweinsteiger has not played a single match for Manchester United since the beginning of January on account of his knee injury. In order to recover physically and mentally United-Coach Louis van Gaal even entitled him to take holidays.

In the upcoming week Schweinsteiger wants to pick up the athletic training again - and five days later even training sessions with the ball. His comeback on the pitch is set for March.

The 31-year-old world champion sticks to his goals however: "I can not promise any title but I can promise that we - as a team - will do anything to become European Champion."
