Überschwänglich feierten die italienischen Medien den viermaligen Fußball-Weltmeister Italien, der am Dienstag einen 81 Jahre alten Rekord eingestellt hat.

1938 hatten die Azzurri unter dem legendären Trainer Vittorio Pozzo acht Siege in Folge errungen. 

Dies schaffte Chefcoach Roberto Mancini mit seinem Team durch ein 5:0 in Liechtenstein ebenfalls und schrieb italienische Fußball-Geschichte.

Mancini: "Ich würde mich mit einem EM-Titel begnügen"

Das EM-Ticket hatten die Italiener bereits am vergangenen Samstag durch das 2:0 gegen Griechenland gelöst.

"Wir haben Pozzos Rekord eingestellt, jetzt müssen wir wie er zwei Weltmeisterschaften und eine Olympiamedaille erobern. Ich würde mich mit einem EM-Titel begnügen", scherzte der 54-jährige Mancini.

Er sieht allerdings sogar noch Steigerungsbedarf bei seinem Team.

"Ich habe positive Antworten von der Mannschaft erhalten, doch wir können in Sachen Qualität noch weiter wachsen", analysierte Mancini.
